Can I still have the free hours when my child starts school?

No. Once a child takes up a place in Reception class at school, all free entitlement funding for three and four-year-olds (including additional hours for working families) ceases as this funding is paid to the school for your child’s school place.

Children become eligible for a Reception place in school from the September following their fourth birthday. It is a legal requirement that all children must be in a school place from the term following the child’s fifth birthday. To find out more about school admissions and when you should apply, visit the school admissions section on the council website.
