I am a landlord, what are the benefits of Selective Licensing for me?

Selective Licensing creates a clear set of guidelines so that all landlords can achieve a benchmark standard of property management. It will prevent less competent or unscrupulous landlords cutting corners whilst good landlords’ reputations are tarnished. 

Landlords will also have to provide and obtain references for their tenants so that prospective landlords would be able to make better informed choices when selecting tenants. 

The council will work with licensed landlords to offer support in order to help landlords achieve the licensing conditions and improve their knowledge in renting. Tenants would also be offered support to ensure they are aware of their rights and provided with advice on tenancy relations and housing matters. 

The Rent Deposit Bond scheme already operated by the council would be prioritised to licensed landlords.
